The BRC has been approved by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles as an option to the motorcycle road test.

You do not need your motorcycle permit to register, but New York residents are required to have a valid motorcycle learner's permit (or a valid motorcycle license), by the time their class starts in order to participate. Out-of-state participants will need a license or permit from their home state in
order to enroll/participate.

Your NY State driver's license and a motorcycle learner's permit must be valid during your course dates - and for about one month after your course dates, or until you amend your license - in order to be eligible for the road test waiver. Students who possess these documents and who successfully complete their RiderCourse can receive their motorcycle license without having to take the DMV's on-street road test.

Successful students will receive a NYSMSP BRC completion card. You will need to bring this card, along with your license and motorcycle learner's
permit to the DMV to amend your license.

Out-of-state participants should check with their home state's DMV regarding licensing eligibility though a New York State BRC.

 A motorcycle learner’s permit may be obtained at your local DMV office.
